Predicting Key Giving Shifts

The previous few years have actually evaluated charities like never before. From post-COVID recovery and an unpredictable global landscape, to rising need for services and shifting patterns in help and philanthropy, fundraisers have actually had to innovate at speed and stretch resources even more than ever. Is all that effort paying off? New research from Blue State suggests that it is.

That's over four million more donors than in the previous year the highest level of providing ever recorded. And while the typical contribution remained constant (169 ), that suffices to press total charitable providing to new heights (echoing Charities Aid Foundation (CAF)'s finding that public donations increased to 15.4 billion in 2024 a 1.5 billion increase in individual giving vs 2023).

And while homes making under 15,000 a year saw a 60 percent decrease in typical contribution worth, more of them are offering, which shows their sustained kindness despite tough times, with the percentage of individuals who said they supported charities in any way rising from 67 per cent to 77 per cent.

In the last few years, we saw an increase in cancelled direct debits as donors had problem with long-term offering dedications, however we're seeing a welcome stabilisation: the portion of individuals who self-reported they cancelled some or all of their regular presents dropped from 17 per cent in 2023 to nine percent in 2024. That's terrific news for earnings predictability and shows that a strong retention program will settle.

Measuring the ROI of Charitable Programs

Our data continues to enhance the reality that ethnic minority neighborhoods and individuals of faith are amongst the most generous donors in the UK.Donors in our sample who self-identified as any ethnic minority (representing roughly 10.9 million individuals in the UK) provided an average of 279 in 2024, compared to 153 for donors who self-identified as 'White British'. Within that group, donors who determined as 'Black 'or 'Black British' provided the most, with an average annual contribution of 449. Religious donors offered nearly three times more than those who chose 'no faith' (223 vs 81), with Muslim donors contributing the most at 373 on average in 2024.

Among 18 to 34-year-olds:17 percent donated through video gaming or livestreaming in 2024, nearly double the 2022 figure (9 percent).16 percent reported going to a protest in 2025, up from just five percent in 2023. The big picture is encouraging: more people are offering, overall private giving is higher than ever, greater income donors are increasing their giving, and donor retention is stabilising.

Fundraisers will need to: Balance volume with value, recognising that higher-income donors are significantly crucial to sustaining offering. Build deeper connections with young donors, using flexible methods to provide that satisfy these donors' expectations, and supplying tailored journeys to address greater cancellation threats.
